About Kaya:

Kaya Lakein is a senior majoring in math and minoring in physics and TAPS. The areas of math she most enjoys include algebra and number theory, and she spent the past two summers doing algebraic number theory research at the University of Virginia REU. At Stanford, she is currently the president of SUMO, and she has been the SUMO tutoring coordinator and a grader for the math department in the past. She hopes to go to graduate school in math.

About Annika:

Annika Mauro is a junior majoring in math, interested in number theory and analysis. She has done summer research in number theory and computational geometry. This year, she is the financial officer for SUMO and a TA for Euler Circle. She plans to co-term in CS and hopes to attend graduate school in math.

Ask her about:

  • course selection

  • summer research opportunities and REU applications

  • planning for graduate school.

  • SUMO and other ways to get connected to the Math community at Stanford.

  • the Math Directed Reading Program.

  • how to not lose faith in yourself in difficult math classes (I’m still working on that one).

  • and more!

Ask her about:

  • choosing classes
  • research opportunities and REU applications
  • the math Directed Reading Program
  • math communities such as SUMO and SWIMM
  • feeling discouraged in math classes
  • feeling unsure
  • and more!
