Three Math Majors won medals at the Al-Khorezmi International Mathematical Olympiad in Uzbekistan

Stanford undergraduate students Andrei Mandelshtam, Robert Dragomirescu, and Matthew Eyler Mason earned gold, silver and bronze medals respectively at the third annual Al-Khorezmi International Mathematical Olympiad (AKHIMO) in Uzbekistan. They were the only Americans who earned a medal in an international competitor pool representing 35 institutions from 20 countries.
A mathematical competition for undergraduate students, AKHIMO’s mission is to inspire students to pursue STEM education by enhancing intellectual potential, nurture creative talent, and foster an international network of mathematicians. The competition also celebrates prominent Islamic Golden Age mathematician Muhammad Al-Khorezmi’s contribution to mathematics. This year's competition was held at Urgench State University in Urgench, the Xorazm region.
