Katy Woo, Stanford Math Major, awarded 2019 Goldwater Scholarship

Katy Woo, a junior majoring in mathematics, has been named one of nearly 500 recipients of the 2019 Goldwater Scholarship.This year's scholarship winners include majors from mathematics and computer sciences, natural sciences,and engineering. Many Goldwater Scholarship winners go on to achieve impressive results in academia and research, including Rhodes Scholars, Marshall Awards, Churchill Scholarships, and Hertz Fellowships. The Scholarship Program honoring Senator Barry Goldwater was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. The Goldwater Scholarship is the preeminent undergraduate award of its type in these fields.

Katy plans to pursue a PhD in Mathematics with a research focus in number theory and its applications to cryptography.
