John Pardon, PhD '15, Awarded Fields Medal at 2026 ICM

John Pardon, PhD '15, advised by Professor Yasha Eliashberg, has been awarded a 2026 Fields Medal for his achievements in Symplectic Geometry, particularly his, "new approaches to virtual fundamental cycles, Fukaya categories of Liouville manifolds and counting holomorphic curves, and for his contributions to other areas of geometry and topology, including group actions on 3-manifolds and knot theory," as noted at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) opening ceremony.

The Fields Medal, frequently referred to as the Nobel Prize of mathematics, recognizes outstanding mathematical achievement in existing work and the promise of future achievement.
