Math majors, Nitya Mani and Jiren Zhu, have been awarded the Firestone Medal Award and the Undergraduate Research Award respectively.

The Firestone Medal Award recognizes the top ten percent of all honors theses in the social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering and applied sciences. Nitya Mani's future plans include pursuing a PhD in mathematics at MIT.

The Undergraduate Research Award recognizes outstanding honors theses from graduating seniors in our department.  Jiren Zhu will be moving to New York to work as a quantitative developer at D.E. Shaw.

The Firestone award will be presented at the annual Undergraduate Medals Ceremony, held midday on the Saturday of Commencement Weekend. The Medals Ceremony offers a place for families and thesis advisors to meet and mingle as their student is honored. This year's event will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019.

Both students will also be recognized at the Mathematics Commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 16, 2019.
