Introduction to mapping class groups

In this talk, we will introduce the definition of mapping class groups of surfaces and do some explicit calculation of those that are possible by hand. Then we will introduce a special kind of elements in the mapping class group, called the Dehn twists, and compute the relations between any two Dehn twists.
