Students declare the minor in Axess. Declarations are reviewed about once per month and you will be contacted once your declaration is approved.
To complete a minor in Mathematics, a student must take at least six Department of Mathematics courses, for a letter grade, numbered 51 or higher, totaling a minimum of 24 units.
Note: All Spring 2020 Stanford courses that would in ordinary times count towards the department units for the Math major and minor will continue to do, and likewise for elective units. Courses taken in Spring 2020 will not count against the CR/NC limit for elective units. Transfer credits for courses taken elsewhere during Spring 2020 and judged equivalent to Stanford courses will be treated the same as those Stanford courses.
- Stats 116, Phil 151, and Phil 152 count as Department of Mathematics courses and can be used towards this requirement.
- Math introsem courses (such as 87Q and 83N) can be used towards this requirement.
- Math 51M and Math 193 cannot be applied to the minor.
No other courses from outside the Department of Mathematics may be used towards the minor. At least twelve of the units applied towards the minor must be taken at Stanford. See the Bulletin for all official requirements.
To see a listing of math courses relevant to a variety of common student interests, please see our page of sample course plans.
If you have transfer credit that you would like to use towards the minor requirements, please review and complete the steps on our Transfer Credit Process page.
No courses other than the Math 50/60CM/60DM series may be double-counted toward any other University major or minor.
