Math Minor

Students declare the minor in Axess. Declarations are reviewed at the beginning of each month and you will receive an email confirmation when your declaration is approved.

Six Math courses at or above Math 51 taken for a letter grade. 

It is recommended (but not required) that three of the six Math courses include one multivariable mathematics series:

• Math 51, 52, 53
• Math 61CM, 62CM, 63CM
• Math 61DM, 62DM, 63DM

Three of the six Math courses must be at the 100-level or above. All 100-level or above courses counted toward the minor must satisfy the following:

• They must be taken at Stanford (transfer credit not permitted)
• They cannot be double-counted toward any other major or minor
• The following out-of-department courses count as 100-level Math courses:
  • Stats 116 (no longer offered)
  • Stats 118 or Stats 200 (at most one, but not both, and neither if Stats 116 is being used)
  • Phil 151
  • Phil 152
  • No other courses outside of the Math Department can count in this way. There are no exceptions to this for any reason.
• The following courses do NOT count as 100-level Math courses for the purposes of the minor:
  • Math 56
  • Math 77Q
  • Math 87Q
  • Math 193
  • Math 193X
  • Math 197
  • Math 198
  • Math 199

No courses counting toward the Math minor requirements may be double-counted toward another major and/or minor, other than the Math 50/60CM/60DM series.
