We are delighted to announce Dan Freed, a Professor at University of Texas at Austin, as the Henri PoincarĂ© Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Mathematics Department this fall.

The Henri PoincarĂ© Distinguished Visiting Professorship generously funded by an endowment to the Mathematics Department to bring worldly renowned distinguished lecturers to Stanford University.

Professor Freed has worked on a variety of problems in geometry, topology, and global analysis. His research often relates to mathematical questions in theoretical physics: quantum field theory, string theory, and condensed matter theory.
