Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation can be submitted and will be accepted after the application deadline. If a letter has not been submitted please contact the recommender to ask them to submit the letter as soon as possible. Letters must be submitted by your recommenders through the online system. You can send a reminder email to your recommenders through the application system which will include the link where they can submit their letter. There is a grace period of about 1 week after the application deadline and before the admissions committee begins their review.

Official Transcripts

If you have already had your transcript sent:
Official transcripts are sorted and marked as complete on the Application Activity Status Page AFTER the application deadline. This process is completed by mid-December. If we have not received your official transcripts by that time we will contact you. Please do not contact the department to see if your official transcripts have been received, check the Application Activity Status Page.

If you have not yet had your official transcripts sent:
You must do so immediately. Two official transcripts from each institution you listed on your application must be sent to the following address:
Graduate Admissions
Department of Mathematics
450 Serra Mall, Building 380
Stanford, CA 94305-2125

You may also have an official electronic transcript sent instead of hard copies. The use of secure electronically-delivered transcripts that are pass code protected is necessary. Transcripts sent as email attachments are not accepted. If your institution provides secure electronic certified transcript service, have the transcript sent to mathgradadmissions@stanford.edu

Note: Your application will be reviewed using the unofficial transcripts that you uploaded to your online application. But your application status will not be complete until the official transcripts are received so please do have them sent as soon as possible.

Official Test Scores

Received (Unofficial): This means that we currently have only have your self-reported scores that you listed on your application.

If you have already had ETS send your official scores to Stanford:
It will take some time for the official scores to be matched to your application in the system and reflected on your checklist. This should happen by late December. If your official scores have not been matched to your application by early January we will contact you. Please do not contact the department to see if your official scores have been received, check the Applicant Status Page.

If you have not already had ETS send your official scores to Stanford:
You must do so immediately. The ETS institutional code for Stanford is 4704.
A department code is not necessary, but it is fine if you give ETS a department code in addition to the institutional code.

Not Received: This means that we have no scores for you. You must send an email immediately to mathgradadmissions@stanford.edu with the following information:
1. Test Date, score(s), percentile(s).
2. Date when you requested that ETS send the official scores.

Not Applicable or Exempt: This is only used for the TOEFL score. This means that you are not required to submit TOEFL scores. If you think that you do not need to submit TOEFL scores but your checklist does not say “Not Applicable” or “Exempt”, please reply to this email to let us know.

Note: Your application will be reviewed using your self-reported test scores that you entered in your online application. But your application status will not be complete until the official scores are received so please do have them sent as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
